2015 Year in Review
After a successful and eventful year, students, professors and staff celebrate the end of 2015 and remember the year’s main events and accomplishments. Let’s get ready for an inspiring new year filled with remarkable new ideas and projects!
SRH employees start aid projects for refugees
In view of the large number of refugees in Germany and the hardships they face, the team of SRH Hochschule Berlin decided to launch a number of projects to help refugees in Berlin. Since 16 November, university employees teach a German course for asylum seekers on a voluntary basis. Together with students, communication professor Anabel Ternès prepared the children’s book “Wer ich bin” (Who I am), which includes stories and favourite recipes shared by refugee children. The revenue from book sales will be used to support the initiative “Children Welcome”. Further projects are being planned, e.g. application trainings for refugees with the support of master students.
1st Healthy University Day at SRH Hochschule Berlin
The first Healthy University Day for the team of SRH Hochschule Berlin took place on 16 October. Under the motto “Healthy University”, employees attended courses on ergonomics and relaxation techniques. Health at the work place is an important topic at SRH. The study programmes “Corporate Demography and Health Management” and “International Healthcare Management” also deal with this issue.
Graduation Ceremony at Kosmos
The Graduation Ceremony 2015 took place on 28 September at Kosmos. Over 150 graduates celebrated the successful completion of their studies with approximately 600 guests, including professors, university staff, friends and relatives. The ceremony was presented by Prof. Dr. Dieter Kronzucker. After the ceremony, the celebration continued with a champagne reception.
Business German and Academic English – Intensive Summer Courses
SRH Hochschule Berlin prepared a special language course programme for the summer. The 4-week course “German for the Profession and Business German” is directed at young professionals and graduates interested in taking the WiDaF test (Business German as a Foreign Language). The pre-study course “Academic English” aims at preparing students for an English-speaking study programme. The courses take place in July and August.
New study programme “Tourismus- und Eventmanagement (B.A.)”
SRH Hochschule Berlin introduced the new bachelor programme “Tourismus- und Eventmanagement” in the winter semester 2015/16. Candidates can choose between studying in Berlin or Dresden. The programme accredited by FIBAA was originally established at BEST-Sabel-Hochschule and will be further developed at SRH.
Diversity Day at SRH Hochschule Berlin
The SRH Hochschule Berlin, signatory of the Charta der Vielfalt and one of the most international universities in Germany, celebrated the 3rd German Diversity Day on 9 June. The programme prepared by students highlighted the importance of diversity in society and in the work life. In addition to an exhibition about topics such as religious diversity, sexual orientation and living with disabilities, the students organized a group interview with professors and specialists.
FIBAA Premium Seal for the “International Management” Master Programme
FIBAA accredits five new Master and MBA programmes at SRH Hochschule Berlin. Additionally, the International Management Master Programme is awarded the Premium Seal. As a result of this distinction, the master programme is now included in the Top 10 of more than 300 accredited management master programmes in Germany.
Customize your Studies: Joint course programme of SRH universities in Berlin
The three SRH universities in Berlin (SRH Hochschule Berlin, SRH Design-Akademie Berlin, SRH Hochschule der populären Künste) and the SRH Hotel-Akademie Dresden have developed a joint course programme for their students. They can choose among over 20 courses in disciplines such as design, music and management and expand their knowledge in a different field.
2nd Impact Forum: Establishing standards for a sustainable Europe
The topic of the 2nd Impact Forum, which took place on 31 March in Berlin, was “Sustainable Europe – Certificates, Ratings, Labels and Standards”. Organized by the International Institute für Sustainability Management (IISM) at SRH in cooperation with the yourSRI Institute (Liechtenstein), the event promoted discussions about sustainable economy between participants and specialists.
From student to professor
Alexander Wulf, one of the first bachelor graduates of SRH Hochschule Berlin, became a professor at the university on 25 February. The young researcher has built a successful academic career for himself, including several prizes and scholarships. He completed his masters and doctoral degree at the Bucerius Law School and London School of Economics. Since 2013, he supports teaching and research activities at the Contractual Management Institute (CMI) of SRH Hochschule Berlin.
Successful reaccreditation of SRH Hochschule Berlin
The German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) has once again confirmed the quality of teaching and research at SRH Hochschule Berlin. In its official statement, the council acknowledges the university’s international character and extends the accreditation. Moreover, the outstanding achievements in research and the broad cooperation network are emphasized. If the requirements are fulfilled, the accreditation period will be extended from five to ten years.
