International Institute for Sustainability Management (IISM)

Sustainability has become a guiding principle in business, politics, culture and society at large. It is understood in the IISM as a phenomenon that both has an effect in the long-term and is effective over the long-term; it is where economic, social, cultural and/or ecological systems come together. Building on this understanding, the institute deals with sustainability by focusing on the following areas: change management, marketing communications, cross-cultural management, Corporate Social Responsibility and green energy.

Vision and Mission

The IISM is engaged in the development and implementation of concepts relating to sustainability that are relevant, practical and suitable for all kinds of business and organisations. A core aspect of sustainability management is it that can be a marketing instrument for strengthening organisations’ brands and image. In order to do this successfully, organisations need to find the right mix of on-line and traditional marketing and communications tools; key to this is market research, including acceptance and feasibility studies.

We focus on promoting sustainability through implementing processes and procedures – and their associated tools – that work well and are at the same time sustainable, which means having the appropriate structures in place to support this. Management activities – particularly sales, marketing and HRM – benefit from processes that have been optimised to be sustainable. A central concern of the IISM is to develop tools that support change management, not least in companies and organisations that are active internationally. Intercultural management plays a key role in this. Corporate Social Responsibility is vital when it comes to protecting nature because it encourages companies to implement organisational and work processes that create value and use resources in a way that is future-oriented. This then lets them develop products and services that are innovative and environmentally sound.

In international projects we focus on topics in the context of Sustainable Development and Capacity Building. Currently, priority countries are Ghana and Cameroon.
