Prof. Dr. Towers studied German at the University of Birmingham in England and worked as a teacher in the UK and Germany. He completed a re-training programme in software programming and developed an interest in business issues following a few years of experience as a programmer. Prof. Dr. Towers was Technical Marketing Manager, Product Manager, Senior Portfolio Manager and Business Unit Manager, working internationally at various small and large companies such as Nortel Networks, Bombardier and the International Air Transport Association. He worked at several universities in Montreal and Berlin and is currently a professor in management and organisation studies at SRH Hochschule Berlin. He has been a visiting professor in Paraguay, Prague, Rome and Athens.

He graduated with an MBA in Strategy and Marketing at McGill University in Montreal and completed his PhD in Management at the University of Carleton in Ottawa. The topic of his doctoral dissertation is “Change Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry”. His research is interdisciplinary and international by nature. He is interested in the changing nature of work and how this is having an impact on employment relationships, in particular the rapid spread of algorithms and the growth in alternative employment relationships and their effect on individuals in terms of their identity. He is also carrying out research into social risk management and on how management ideas travel.
