The workshop on basic income, held in cooperation with the crowdfunded group “Mein Grundeinkommen” and the magazine “Exberliner”, was a great success.
International Business Administration students organized the event on 7 July as part of a study project led by Timo Daum: they created a website, booked the speakers and came up with an interesting range of discussion topics. The workshop was well attended and attracted a very diverse crowd with people from all ages and backgrounds.
In various groups people shared their ideas and opinions on the pros and cons of basic income and the impact it can have on society as a whole. Topics such as the stigmatization of receiving a basic income, access to opportunities, choices made with a basic income and willingness to work came up. One winner even shared her positive experience with an unconditional basic income. Receiving €1,000 each month for a year gives her more flexibility and security when it comes to running her own business. An online survey by “Mein Grundeinkommen” asked what people would do if they won a basic income for a year. Among the more popular responses were living a self-determined life, spending more time with family, backpacking the world, doing more community work and looking into further education.
