Six months in Amsterdam
Calvin Ngu is interning in the Dutch capital and shares his experience
Why do you do an internship in Amsterdam? “Because the city is nice and I have friends there” Calvin Ngu says. He is a final semester student of the German programme “Internationale Betriebswirtschaftslehre mit Schwerpunkt Marketing”. The city itself isn’t the only reason though. Calvin chose Amsterdam because the company he’s working for, the Dutch start-up Deskbookers, has its headquarters in the capital. The young enterprise offers a platform for companies to lease meeting and seminar rooms to other companies. The Marketing student also really liked the fact that the company’s business model is part of the Sharing Economy and therefore can be seen as quite innovative.
Calvin Ngu chose to do an Online Marketing internship with a start-up because, as an intern, you are actively involved from the beginning and get to do many tasks. In his opinion, you are also assigned great responsibility and are able to gain valuable experience. That is why he’s doing his mandatory internship for the duration of six months. “I am very happy that I’ll be working in a small team and that I get to speak English” Calvin tells us. After his Erasmus semester in Lissabon he had the urge to go abroad again. However, this time around he’s leaving to work and not to study.
Calvin’s adventure began last Thursday when he left Berlin for Amsterdam. That’s two weeks before his official start in September. The final year student thinks it’s better to get settled first and to have enough time “to get to know this amazing city”.
For the next couple of weeks, Calvin will share his experience in Amsterdam in his blog. We are already very excited and will keep you updated!
